Back in 1971 when NASA planed to send out people to the Moon for a lunar mission, they had chosen astronauts Jim Lovell, Frad Haise and Jack Swigert. Even they launched into outer space successfully; a slight fault from inside space module caused an explosion that turned the exploration into a survival test the whole crew of Apollo 13. While Loveel, Haise, and Swigert were trying to survive in space, the workers at NASA were trying to figure out a way of getting the astronauts home safely.

The Blancpain Carrousel Volant Une Minute

(The Blancpain Carrousel Volant Une Minute)

The Blancpain Carrousel Volant Une Minute watch is a new complicated watch from Blancpain that confirms the passion for inventive haute horlogerie that made the brand a untouchable reference among collectors. This watch's remarkable movement was inspired by the carrousel, an invention of Danish watchmaker Bahne Bonniksen. Created in its original form in 1892, the carrousel was to count the effects of gravity upon the escapement of a timepiece. The carrousel has been meticulously engineered to complete a single revolution each minute, another factor that makes it remarkable; traditional carrousels completed a single rotation at an unspecified rate that could vary between 27 and 42 minutes.

IWC 2009 Collection: The Little Prince, a tribute to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

The Little Prince (French: Le Petit Prince), published in 1943, is French aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's most famous novel. Saint-Exupéry wrote it while living in the United States. It has been translated into more than 180 languages and sold more than 80 million copies making it one of the best-selling books ever.

An earlier memoir by the author recounts his aviation experiences in the Saharan desert. He is thought to have drawn on these same experiences for use as plot elements in The Little Prince. Saint-Exupéry's novel has been adapted to various media over the decades, including stage, screen and operatic works.

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and The Little Prince

There is The Museum of The Little Prince in Hakone, featuring outdoor squares and sculptures like The B 612 Asteroid, The Lamplighter Square, the sculpture of the little prince. There is a large Little Prince Park, The Consuelo Rose Garden. But the main part of the museum is the indoor exhibition. Before France adopted the Euro as i

ts currency, Saint-Exupéry and the little prince were on the French 50 Franc banknote; the artwork was by Swiss designer Roger Pfund. One of the anticounterfeiting measures on the banknote was micro-printed text from Le Petit Prince, visible with a strong magnifying glass.

In 2006, IWC honoured the

early pilots with a limited edition of chronograph watches dedicated to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, well known pilot and author of one of the most famous novel of all times: The Little Prince.

In 2009 the fourth and final series of watches dedicated to Saint-Exupéry was launched. It is a Big Pilot’s model, made in a limited edition of 1.900 timepieces

Man on the Moon: 40 years - Omega Speedmaster.

A moon landing is the arrival of a spacecraft on the surface of a planet's natural satellite and, in this case, it specifically refers to landings on the lunar surface of Earth's Moon. The first human-made object to reach the surface of the Moon was the Soviet Union's Luna 2 mission on September 13, 1959. The United States's Apollo 11 mission was the first manned spacecraft to land on the Moon on July 20, 1969.

The Apollo 11 crew from left to right: Neil Armstrong, Commander; Michael Collins, command module pilot; and , Edwin E. Aldrin Jr., lunar module pilot.

On July 20, 1969, Commander Neil Armstrong said: "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

The Lunar Module "Eagle" consisted of two parts: the descent stage and the ascent stage.
The descent state provided the engine used to land on the moon. It had four legs, a storage area for experimental gear, and a ladder for the crew to climb down to the moon's surface. The descent module also served as the launch platform for the ascent module when it came time to leave. The ascent module carried the crew back to the Command Service Module.

To walk on the moon's surface, the astronauts needed to wear a space suit with a back mounted, portable life support system. This controlled the oxygen, temperature and pressure inside the suit.

The crew spend a total of two and a half hours on the moon's surface. While on the moon's surface, the performed a variety of experiments and collected soil and rock samples to return to Earth. An North American flag was left on the moon's surface as a reminder of the accomplishment.

First watch on the Moon and Mars only the sky is the limit.

Exactly at 2:56 GMT on July 21, 1969, the landing of the first humans on the Moon is seen as Neil Armstrong said That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. After satisfactorily passing exhaustive tests designated by NASA, Omega Speedmaster was chosen as the first watch taken to the space. It was worn for intra and extra vehicular activities, including the moonwalks, on all the missions. During extra vehicular activities the astronauts wore the watch on the outside of their pressure suits. After that it became Omega Speedmaster Professional Chronograph, the first Moon Watch. It is still present on Shuttle missions nowadays.
In 1970, the chronograph feature of the Omega Speedmaster Professional was fundamental for giving guidelines to the crew that used the Lunar Module as a lifeboat in space and successfully returned to Earth.

Today, on its way to the planet Mars, Omega's Speedmaster X-33 is the pioneer of the space exploration. After 5 years of development and tests, Omega presented a new Omega Speedmaster X-33 watch in 1998, which is now flight-qualified by both NASA and the Russian space agency MIR astronauts and cosmonauts. It is also included as an item of standard equipment and is worn for extra-vehicular activity.
