Grand Slam Oval construction efforts are in full swing to prepare Melbourne Park’s extravagant new entertainment precinct for operation by Monday.
The 11,000 square-metre space, located between Rod Laver and Hisense Arenas, will more than double the area available to spectators during Australian Open 2010.
Grand Slam Oval will feature two giant screens, the Heineken Beer Garden, the Jacob’s Creek Sparkling Moscato Bar, daily live entertainment including bands and DJs, and areas for relaxing, shopping and pampering.

Big-name acts include Jessica Mauboy, Rogue Traders, Daryl Braithwaite, Mark Seymour, James Reyne, Kisschasy, Kate Miller-Heidke and Ladyhawke.
Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley says Grand Slam Oval will give fans even more opportunities to relax and enjoy the carnival atmosphere that characterises the tournament.
“The Australian Open has attracted record crowds for the past nine years, and with the increased numbers we recognised that we needed to reconfigure our space to ensure the best possible spectator experience,” he says.

“At Australian Open 2010 we have something for everyone – from the diehard tennis fans keen to snare a spot on a show court, young adults who enjoy the live entertainment, and families who come for a great day out.”
Visitors to Grand Slam Oval have endless options when it comes to activities. They can:
* Win a Kia Soul car by entering the competition at the Kia Live @ the Open marquee
* Enjoy a pampering session or relax under the trees in the upstairs orchard at the Cussons Pure Oasis, a rainforest retreat for Grand Slam Oval visitors
* Receive an ice cube massage at the Evian Spa

The Australian Open’s FM radio partner Nova 100 will broadcast live from Grand Slam Oval each day during the Open.
Garden Square, previously the venue for entertainment at Melbourne Park, will now be a more family-friendly venue featuring tennis on the large screen, Kia face painting, MLC’s Tennis Hot Shots, Fan Zone and Autograph Island, the Wilson International Stringers and roving entertainment.
