The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Liquidmetal Limited Edition watch

Ticking beneath the screwed steel caseback decorated with the famous Omega Seahorse logo is the Co-Axial 2500 caliber. Based upon a highly elaborated ETA 2892 base, this movement offers a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. The balance pulsates at the distinctive pace of 25,200 beats per hour, a technical necessity implemented to assure reliable operation within the framework of the innovative Omega Co-Axial Escapement. Bridges and the central winding rotor display Cotes de Geneve patterns, while the mainplate is decorated with circular graining. The caliber features both a stop seconds function for precise setting and convenient, rapidly-adjustable calendar. A confirmation of the caliber's precision comes from the Controle Officiel Suisse des Chronometres (COSC), which has subjected each caliber to a highly specific range of tests over a period of 15 days.
Omega has plans to produce 1,948 examples of the Seamaster Planet Ocean Liquidmetal Limited Edition watch. As astute fans of horological history will readily note, that number pays tribute to the year in which the first Omega Seamaster timepiece was introduced.

Omega and Sports: Its conexion to the Swimming, Polo and Athletics World.
Omega was the first company to be entrusted with the official timekeeping of all disciplines at the Los Angeles Games in 1932 using chronographs and stop-watches developed by its subsidiary Lémania. Omega's association with the Olympic Games led to well over half a century of pioneering developments in the field of sports timekeeping.
Omega and the Swimming World
(Michael Phelps - Swimmer)
The association between Omega and swimming dates back to 1932 when the brand was first entrusted with the official timekeeping of all disciplines at the Olympic Games including swimming.
The watchmaker symbolized by the Greek letter for perfection has had a decades-long partnership with the swimming world. In addition to its role as official FINA partner, it is also the Official Timekeeper of LEN (European Aquatics) and has served in many internationally renowned swimming competitions, among them the Pan Pacific Championships and, of course, the Olympic Games. This relationship has led to a long list of innovations in the field including the world's first semi-automatic swimming timer, the Swim Eight-O-Matic Timer, first used at the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956, and the famous "touch pads" placed at each end of the pool for timekeeping at swimming events, first used at the Pan-American games in Winnipeg in 1967.

New York: Golfer Sergio Garcia visited Omega's flagship store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan
New York-PGA Tour golfer Sergio Garcia visited Omega's flagship store on
Garcia, who became ambassador for the wristwatch company since 2003, donated his personal Omega "Mission Hills Double Eagle Chronograph Constellation" timepiece, the latest addition to the store's "Ambassador Collection Series" of autographed watches, which already includes watches by two fellow Omega ambassadors: Olympic swimming champ Michael Phelps and astronaut Buzz Aldrin.
Although he's a fan of Omega and its watches and a proud ambassador, Garcia told National Jeweler that he doesn't like to wear a watch while playing golf because it places extra weight on his hand. He said; “"This one, the Constellation, is a great watch and it's very light."
Garcia said he has been proud to be an Omega ambassador and also that he owns probably 10 or 12 of the brand's watches. He added: “They've been very generous".

Omega's 40th Lunar Landing Anniversary: Buzz Aldrin and the Omega Speedmaster Chronograph.

Edwin Eugene “Buzz” Aldrin was born on January 20, 1930. Buzz is an engineer, retired United States Air Force pilot and astronaut who was the Lunar Module pilot on Apollo 11, the first lunar landing. He was the second person to set foot on the Moon, following his mission commander Neil Armstrong.
Aldrin was selected as part of the third group of NASA astronauts in October 1963 being promoted to back-up crew for the mission. According to different NASA accounts, he had originally been proposed as the first to step onto the Moon's surface, but due to the physical positioning of the astronauts inside the compact Lunar Landing Module, it was easier for the commander, Neil Armstrong, to be the first to exit the spacecraft.

Aldrin is a Presbyterian and an active freemason. After landing on the moon, Aldrin radioed earth: "I'd like to take this opportunity to ask every person listening in, whoever and wherever they may be, to pause for a moment and contemplate the events of the past few hours, and to give thanks in his or her own way." He received Communion on the surface of the Moon, but kept it secret because of a lawsuit brought by atheist activist Madalyn Murray O'Hair over the reading of Genesis on Apollo 8.
Buzz Aldrin joined Omega CEO Stephen Urquhart at Omega’s Flagship Boutique in New York last June in order to mark the anniversary of the lunar landing. He spoke about the importance of keeping and active speace tourism programm and, of course, lunar exploration, including artists and writers so that thet can reflect on the experience.
Omega has been an active participant on NASA’s programs and, because of being moonlanding’s 40th anniversary, the wristwatch company focuses on its iconic Speedmaster Chronograph along with President John F. Kennedy (the one who promoted United States’ lunar landing.

Man on the Moon: 40 years - Omega Speedmaster.
The Apollo 11 crew from left to right: Neil Armstrong, Commander; Michael Collins, command module pilot; and , Edwin E. Aldrin Jr., lunar module pilot.
On July 20, 1969, Commander Neil Armstrong said: "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."The Lunar Module "Eagle" consisted of two parts: the descent stage and the ascent stage.
The descent state provided the engine used to land on the moon. It had four legs, a storage area for experimental gear, and a ladder for the crew to climb down to the moon's surface. The descent module also served as the launch platform for the ascent module when it came time to leave. The ascent module carried the crew back to the Command Service Module.

The crew spend a total of two and a half hours on the moon's surface. While on the moon's surface, the performed a variety of experiments and collected soil and rock samples to return to Earth. An North American flag was left on the moon's surface as a reminder of the accomplishment.
Exactly at 2:56 GMT on July 21, 1969, the landing of the first humans on the Moon is seen as Neil Armstrong said That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. After satisfactorily passing exhaustive tests designated by NASA, Omega Speedmaster was chosen as the first watch taken to the space. It was worn for intra and extra vehicular activities, including the moonwalks, on all the missions. During extra vehicular activities the astronauts wore the watch on the outside of their pressure suits. After that it became Omega Speedmaster Professional Chronograph, the first Moon Watch. It is still present on Shuttle missions nowadays.
In 1970, the chronograph feature of the Omega Speedmaster Professional was fundamental for giving guidelines to the crew that used the Lunar Module as a lifeboat in space and successfully returned to Earth.

Today, on its way to the planet Mars, Omega's Speedmaster X-33 is the pioneer of the space exploration. After 5 years of development and tests, Omega presented a new Omega Speedmaster X-33 watch in 1998, which is now flight-qualified by both NASA and the Russian space agency MIR astronauts and cosmonauts. It is also included as an item of standard equipment and is worn for extra-vehicular activity.
